Larry Edwards, Fleet Director at Highway Transport. has been involved in the tank truck industry his entire adult life. He is now lending his expertise to The Cargo Tank Risk Management Committee. CTRMC will once again join forces with NTTC’s Tank Truck Week in New Orleans, Larry is on the steering committee. The group’s focus is to keep the tanker trucking industry safe and up-to-date on crucial tanker safety topics:

• efforts to eliminate workers from going on top of tank trailers 

• listening to safety concerns from a panel of tank truck drivers 

• the latest OSHA rulings

At Highway Transport, continuous improvement is always under way to significantly reduce the need for drivers and workers to go on top of tank trailers.

The Cargo Tank Risk Management Committee (CTRMC) was formed on March 17, 2010 and is made up of leading industry professionals, with the sole task to proactively enhance cargo tank safety.

Larry Edwards’ vast array of tanker trucking experience began at Allied Chemical unloading liquid fertilizer from barges on the Ohio River into storage tanks and then into tank trucks. He next started maintenance and tank cleaning operations at Strothman Tank Lines in Cincinnati, Ohio leading into operations, permitting and compliance. In the early 1980’s he co-founded Shippers Bulk Service in Florence, Kentucky as Chief Operating Officer. In the late 1990’s Highway Transport purchased Shippers Bulk Service. Larry has handled numerous roles at Highway Transport including Business Development Manager, Director of Maintenance, Tank Cleaning, and Environmental Compliance, and his current position as Fleet Director. He is responsible for specifying and purchasing tractors, tank trailers, product transfer equipment, and shop related equipment. Larry is responsible for product approval based on equipment specifications prior to transporting. He also manages the Maintenance Department that oversees the company shops and outsourced maintenance activity. Larry and his wife reside in Knoxville, TN and his adult children and grandchildren live in Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati.
